Buying a device from online marketplaces such as Facebook Marketplace, Mercari, OfferUp and Swappa can at times be risky. That risk involves purchasing a mobile phone or mobile device and after you pay and now have the device in your possession you need to either put your SIM/eSIM in the device or get service for the device. Upon obtaining service for the device you either find the "no service" logo on Android devices or you get the "SOS" message on your iOS device. You might call your carrier and ask why you cannot get service on the device. The rep asks for the device IMEI number and after a brief time period the service rep tells you the device is listed as Lost or Stolen status. Now, you are stuck with an expensive paperweight.

Not anymore. With the following steps we will show you how to remove the lost and stolen status and get the device back in clean and clear status. Once the device is back in the clear you will be able to either add your eSIM and/or physical SIM card and get service and more importantly use the device as normal. The device will be good as new.

This specific article pertains to AT&T devices only. If you need an unbarring (IMEI cleaning) service for another carrier, please go to that specific carrier's section on our website or please see the "blacklist" section. The following how to guide will work for any AT&T device with an IMEI number. It works on iPhone, Android, iPad, Tablet and even hot spot. If it was originally purchased from AT&T, it has an IMEI number associated with the device and it is blacklisted by ATT this service will work for you.

This service is NOT a network (eSIM/SIM) unlock. This is to reverse the stolen status of a device.

  1. 1. First off, you need to verify that the device is an AT&T device and that the device was blacklisted by ATT with the Lost and stolen status. If you already know what the device is (iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung S24) Skip Step #2 and go to Step #3.

  2. Go to the T-Mobile Device IMEI Checker Website so you can verify and identify what device you actually have before you do anything. It is imperative that you work with facts and not "I think". Just follow the steps each and every time. If you do not have the correct information it will ruin the whole process and you will waste time and have to start the process all over again if you submit the wrong information such as an incorrect IMEI or incorrect device and/or carrier.

  3. Once you identify the exact device you have, now you need to go get a full background check for the device to make sure the reason it is blocked for getting service is due to the Lost and Stolen status. Go to the Direct Codes server. If it is an iOS device, iPhone or iPad, in Direct Codes select "Place Order" tab and then select "Device Services". Find the service titled "Apple iPhone Check" - See graphic below

  4. If the device is not an Apple device, such as an Android, Please find a check services for the specific device manufacture Like a Samsung Network Check Service displayed in the graphic below. You need to verify it is an ATT device. After you verify the device is an ATT device, you need to run a carrier status check to see if it is officially blacklisted as lost or stolen. The iPhone check above is nice because it gives you the results you need to verify in one service. It gives you the carrier and the lost and stolen status with just one service check. Android you have to run two services or checks - you have to run the carrier check to verify it is ATT and then you have to run the lost and stolen check service. See graphic below. Those are two separate service you have to run.

  5. Once you verify the device is an AT&T device and that is was blocked or blacklisted due to it being in Lost or Stolen status you can now run the official service to get this device fixed. I typically use Phone Style Server for my Verizon and AT&T unbarring services (Blacklist Repair, IMEI Cleaning). Most of the servers on our List of Approved Unlock Servers have an ATT unbarring service, however Phone Style Server has not really let me down in the past and they have usually always completed the service with me. Most importantly once the service is completed the customers have never come back to me saying the device is blocked again. Once removed from Lost and Stolen Status they stay clean and clear! Go to Phone Style Server and Find the AT&T Unbar Service, submit the device IMEI and thank me later! The service you need is shown in the graphic below:

    6. That's it! Simply wait a few days and it will get removed!
